While Atlantis of Kilmore Quay is a national business, John Kenny & Mark O’Connor are local Wexford men, running a local business which supports other local businesses and services local consumers. It’s becoming increasing important to customers to “shop local”, especially of the last couple of years, and it’s clear people are making a real effort to support local producers and look for food provenance and artisan products. As well as an extremely successful trade business and online store Atlantis of Kilmore Quay have a busy retail outlet on the outskirts of Wexford town. The shop, which will soon be celebrating 10yrs open, has free parking at the door and is easily accessible from Wexford town and all surrounding areas.
Quality, fresh, seafood sustainably caught or cultivated is at the heart of all the products with fresh fish landing daily from Kilmore Quay coming up to the store. The seafood range includes, as well as the more commonly know fish, prime fish such as monk, black sole, scallops, turbot and john dory. There is shellfish from Kelly Oysters in Galway Bay – mussels, oysters and clams as well as crabmeat, claws and lobsters from Rosslare.
The team produce fresh breaded goujons, fillets and fishcakes as well as a selection of fresh ready meals for people on the go and an inhouse smokehouse produces smoked and cured salmon. Anchovies, roll mops, fish stock, lumpfish roe, smoked mackerel and a selection of frozen seafood products are all also available.
The store is keen to support other local producers, many of whom are from Co Wexford, and offer a wide range of food and drink on the shelves which include products from – Goatsbridge Trout Farm, Shines Irish Tuna Products, Wild Irish Seaweed, Achill Island Sea Salt, Silver Fox Sauces, Thai Gold, Tara Hill Honey, Ballycross Apple Farm and Mr Jeffares Blackcurrants. You can even pick up a treat for your canine friend in the Harley & Marley range or perhaps some local crafts.

Vilma manages the shop on a daily basis and is heavily involved in recipe development and new up and coming products, and in case you’re wondering – her favourite fish is John Dory!
