Sourcing

Sustainably Sourced Seafood

Sustainably Sourced Seafood

Our location by the sea here in Wexford makes sourcing locally for most fish very easy! The waters off the coast of Kilmore Quay are known as the Celtic Sea - this is actually part of the Atlantic Ocean and is home to a great variety of fish in abundance.

We do our best to source our seafood as sustainably and as locally as possible. We work very closely with the fishermen from Rosslare, through Kilmore Quay, Dunmore East, Ballycotton and down to Castletownbere to find the best fresh fish and shellfish for our customers.

Seafood that we need to source from further afield is sourced from highly reputable fisheries that are responsibly managed.

Our Partners

We have worked with Saltees Fish for many years.

This is a family fishing business that was founded by the O’Flaherty brothers in 1996.

They have always gone the extra mile to land the very best for their customers and so their business has grown. They now operate one of Ireland’s largest fishing fleets.

Saltees Fish now have a fantastic specially designed building with loading bays, an ice plant and storage areas on the quay in Kilmore.

The O’Flaherty brothers are proud to land Irish fish with Irish boats - nowadays they supply their catch not only to us but to markets in continental Europe.

Atlantis of Kilmore Quay is proud to work with Kingfisher Fresh Ltd. - a fellow member of Origin Green and partner in the White Fish Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) - two great programmes working towards sustainability. They are continuously working with the support of Bord Iascaigh Mhara to find and use improved fishing methods, focusing more than ever on conservation and sustainability measures to secure the future of the fishing industry and protect our environment.

Kingfisher Fresh was set up in 2007 by Michelle O’Neill and Brian Everard - they are good and close neighbours of ours - based only 100m from our offices - and we enjoy a great working relationship.

Goatsbridge Trout is a sustainably run trout farm near Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny and run by Mag and Ger Kirwan. Each catch comes daily from the crystal clear waters of the Little Arrigle River that runs through their land, giving it a unique and wonderful taste and texture. The family have been farming trout here since 1961, producing whole trout and award winning trout products that have a taste that cannot be beaten.

Our oysters, clams and mussels all come from Kelly Oysters in Galway. This family business was set up in 1963. Nowadays they supply customers all over the world as well as us here in Ireland but they still harvest each oyster by hand.

Kelly Oysters rear their shellfish in a small inlet in Kilcolgan where they are nourished by the nutrient rich, clear waters of the Atlantic - you can taste the Wild Atlantic Way in each bite!

James and Willy Walsh are brothers who run Rosslare Crab and work their trusty fishing boat, My Sophie, off the coast of Rosslare.

They have lobster and crab pots in the sea from Tuskar Rock to Carnsore Point. The impact on the lobster & crab fishery is minimal & very sustainable given their traditional approach and use of vessels under 25ft.

Brown crabs, spider crabs and lobster are the main catches that the Walsh family lands and they give the most succulent and delicious meat you can imagine.
